  • Justice Connect's Access Program

Justice Connect matches people with legal problems with our network of 10,000+ pro bono (free) lawyers.

As there are a limited number of lawyers, the service works with priority groups and projects to respond to rising legal need and matters in the public interest. There are some kinds of problems that the service cannot assist with.

To make a request for assistance from Justice Connect, you will need to answer some questions. This application may identify that you are not eligible for assistance, and will suggest other places that you can look for help.

If your problem and circumstances meet the service’s criteria, you will be asked to submit your answers and your contact details.

I understand that this is an application only, that I am making a request for assistance, and until Justice Connect indicates that legal assistance will be provided, no client-solicitor relationship is created.

How we use and what we do with your personal information

The personal information that you provide to us in this application is used to make an assessment about whether we are able to provide you with a service or refer you to another service provider.

We respect your privacy and confidential information, and have designed robust systems to protect your information.

Some of our services are delivered by our lawyers in our pro bono network. We may share your information with these lawyers for the purposes of finding you legal assistance.

We will not share your personal information with other service providers (other than lawyers that we are trying to recruit to provide you with legal assistance) without first seeking your consent.

We may use deidentified and anonymised information collected to improve our products and services.

We collect, use, disclose and store your personal information in accordance with our privacy policy.

View our privacy policy and disclaimer.

We’re working hard to connect you to help as soon as we can.

Due to COVID19-related staff shortages, we may take up to 5 business days to review and respond to your application for legal assistance. We thank you for your patience during this time.
If you are looking for urgent assistance, please contact your local legal aid.

  • How we can help for your problem types

You have selected some matters that Justice Connect cannot assist with, but we may be able to assist you with some of your problems.

Read about the problems that we can't help with, and then you can continue to tell us more about the problems we can help with.

Problem types we can't help with:

  • Criminal law matters

Unfortunately we cannot assist with criminal law matters. We know that finding free legal assistance for criminal law matters that are not eligible for legal aid can be difficult. Justice Connect cannot assist with criminal law matters unless you are already receiving assistance as a client of the Homeless Law service for a different legal issue. We recommend that you contact the legal aid in your state or territory to find out if you are eligible for free assistance from legal aid before trying anywhere else. If legal aid cannot assist, you can try your local community legal centre, or seek a referral to a lawyer on a fee paying basis from your local law society.
  • Compensation and personal injury claims

Justice Connect cannot assist with compensation claims or personal injury claims as we do not have a service in this area of law. If a compensation or personal injury claim has a reasonable chance of success, a 'no win no fee' firm will usually be prepared to take on your matter, as they can take their fees from the outcome of your successful claim.  We recommend that you search for a 'no win, no fee' firm in your area.
  • Visa Application

We know that finding assistance can be difficult. Justice Connect cannot assist people to prepare visa applications as we are not registered migration agents. If you are a refugee seeking assistance to make an asylum claim, there are several services that may be able to help.

    Refugees in Victoria:

    • The Asylum Seeker Resource Centre
    • Refugee Legal

    Refugees in NSW:

    • Refugee Advice and Casework Service

  • Complaints about a lawyer

You selected that you have a dispute with a lawyer. Unfortunately Justice Connect is not able to help with this type of legal issue. We know that finding assistance can be difficult.

  • Will and probate

You selected that you have a will and probate problem. Unfortunately Justice Connect is not able to help with this type of legal issue. You could try attending your local community legal centre, or you can contact the Law Society in your state or territory for a referral to a specialist will and probate lawyer (on a fee-paying basis).
  • Neighbourhood dispute

You selected that you have a dispute with a neighbour. Unfortunately Justice Connect is not able to help with this type of legal issue. You can try attending your local community legal centre, however you may need to pay for a lawyer to assist you. If you would like to find a lawyer with expertise in the issue you have, you can contact your local law society who will be able to refer you to a lawyer.
  • Family law legal problem

You selected that you have a family law legal problem. Unfortunately Justice Connect is not able to help with this type of legal issue. We know that finding assistance can be difficult. • Workplace Injury

Unfortunately, Justice Connect is not able to assist with workplace injury matters.

Justice Connect's services focus on assisting the most vulnerable people. We know that there are many people with unmet legal needs who cannot afford a lawyer, and are not eligible for our services. We advocate for increased funding of legal services so that more people can access free legal help.
